Wednesday, December 09, 2009 from 7:15 AM - 8:30 AM (CT)
Scouting is 100 years old, both nationally and in the Twin Cities! We are planning to kick off our Centennial Year Celebration in style, by doing what no other Boy Scout Council has ever done: Raise over $1 Million dollars in just 48-hours. Over 1000 local Scouting supporters will gather in two locations to celebrate Scouting’s achievements of the past 100 years, and to get a glimpse of what the next 100 have in store! The Centennial Friends of Scouting campaign formally kicks off with a breakfast at the Crowne Plaza Riverfront Hotel in Saint Paul at 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday, December 9. An inspirational program and a call to invest in Scouting will be highlighted by a keynote address by Tubby Smith, Gopher’s Basketball Head Coach, and a presentation of the first 2009 Scoutmaster of Philanthropy award to Roland Wilsey, given in recognition for his many years of service to Scouting and the community.
For the next 24 hours, volunteers will contact their friends and past donors to share Scouting’s message and ask for their financial support before a second community gathering takes place on December 10 at 7:15 a.m., this time at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Bloomington. Chris Wright, President of the Minnesota Timberwolves, will join us as our keynote speaker and Marv Borman, founding partner of Maslon, Edelman, Borman & Brand Law Offices, will be presented with the second Scoutmaster of Philanthropy award for 2009.
And this event is just the beginning: In the coming months there are several exciting ways that we are going to showcase the achievements of the past 100 years, and let the community know of all the great things that we are planning in the years to come.
